PLAYOFF HYPE

Serving as my first official project at the NHL, this fast-paced highlight feature was created during the height of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Working directly with a hard drive of first-round footage, I was given full creative control to craft a high-energy edit designed to capture the intensity, speed, and emotion of postseason hockey. The result is a sharp, atmospheric hype video that sets the tone for playoff hockey.

My Time at NHL Productions

During my summer as a Production Intern at NHL Productions, I immersed myself in every stage of high-level sports broadcasting—bridging the gap between live studio environments and detailed post-production workflows.

Live Production & Studio Operations

In the studio and control room, I assisted with floor management, lighting setups, and mic placement while learning directly alongside veteran Directors, Technical Directors, and Producers. A major highlight was working hands-on during Broadcast Boot Camp—an intensive studio simulation helping active and retired NHL players transition into broadcasting careers.

Post-Production & Archival Asset Management

On the post-production side, my work ranged from high-energy video editing to asset organization:

  • Archive & Metadata Tagging: Cataloged and logged key plays, big hits, and game-defining moments across the entire Stanley Cup Playoffs using Reach Engine to streamline footage retrieval for senior editors.

  • Editing & Concept Pitching: From editing a first-round playoff hype video on week one to pitching ten original project concepts to production leads, I took ideas from initial vision and deep archival research through to final broadcast-ready edits.

Created as my final capstone project, this highlight leverages the league’s vast archival vault to ignite fan excitement for the upcoming season. It explores modern hockey’s new era—drawing dynamic parallels between the rise of young superstars and the iconic legends who paved the way. By contrasting veterans with the energy of a new generation, the piece bridges past and present to celebrate the game’s enduring legacy.
